Kura-Kura Bus attended the recent “Tourism EXPO 2014 Japan” held in Tokyo from 25 – 28 September 2014. Formerly known as the “JATA Travel Fair”, it is one of the largest travel events in the world. The event is held annually at Tokyo Big Sight, and this year over 150,000 visitors attended over the four-day period.  Kura-Kura Bus was proud to have an exhibition stall at the event, with two Japanese staff, one Russian staff, and the ever-popular Kuramon mascot being on hand to meet members of the public. Bali hosts a number of events throughout the year such as music festivals, art exhibitions and sporting events. The annual Bali International Film Festival (BALINALE) is another favorite on the event calendar and takes place in October each year. This is the 8th year of BALINALE, where 59 award-winning films from 18 countries will be screened over seven days at Beachwalk in Kuta. The 24th annual Bon Odori Bali Festival will be held on Saturday, 6 September 2014. This fun event has been running since 1990, and is organized by the Bali Japan Club. There are many Japanese expats living in Bali and multi-cultural marriages between Japanese and Balinese are common. Bon Odori is a Japanese Summer Festival that celebrates the Japanese culture through traditional dance, games and food. The first ever Bali & Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) was recently held in Nusa Dua at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center from the 10th – 14th June 2014. Galungan is the most important festival for Bali’s local Hindu people. Held every 210 days according to the Balinese calendar, Galungan is a celebration that honors the creator of the universe and the spirits of the ancestors. During this time, the victory of good over evil is celebrated and the spirits of the ancestors are believed to visit the earth. Nyepi is  a Hindu celebration that sees the island of Bali practically shut down for 24 hours. From 6am on Nyepi Day until 6am the following day, no-one is allowed out on the streets or the beaches – even the international airport closes during this time.  “Silent Day” is a time of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese, when lights are kept low and no working or traveling is permitted. Every year, Balinese Hindus celebrate a holy day dedicated to Sanghyang Pasupati, the God of steel implements. The day is known as “Tumpek Landep”, and took place on Saturday 22 March this year. On this special day, the local people show their gratitude to Sanghyang Pasupati, and all the steel implements that make Balinese life easier and safer. The first International Jazz event was held in Bali under the Bali Live Festival, showcasing some of Bali and Indonesia’s best jazz talents such as Balawan and Rio Sidiq, and also featuring international Jazz artists including the Earth, Wind and Fire Experience feat.
